A pyramid is a generic mathematical term which is used to describe a 3-dimensional shape which consists of an n-sided polygonal base and n triangular faces meeting at an apex.

If the pyramid has an n-sided polygon as base, then it has 2n edges and n+1 vertices (and n+1 faces).
