Um.. what pyramid?
there are generaly only two pryamids: one with a square base and one with a triangular base. (in theory any polygon could act as a base).
ref: What_is_Euler's_rule

F= faces; V= vertices (where two or more edges meet); E= edges
E= F+V-2
A square based pyramid has: F=5; V=5 so 5+5-2=8
A triangular pyramid (aka tetrahedron) has: F=4; V=4 so 4+4-2= 6
