If the base is a polygon with n sides, the pyramid will have n+1 faces.
Triangle base (3 sides) gives 5 faces,
Quadrilateral base (4 sides) has 5 faces, etc.

Four triangular faces, which you normally see, and a square base face, which tends to be not thought about. This makes a total of five faces.

No such thing as a 'square pyramid'. A pyramid is a solid object, with one (1) square base, and four(4) triangular faces. Only one face is 'square' , the BASE. ALL pyramids have a SQUARE base, so there is no need to describe it as a 'square pyramid'. Do NOT confuse with a Tetrahedron, which is a solid object, composed of four(4) triangular faces. The base being a triangle, and three triangular faces.
