Here is where you would use something called a conversion factor, basically its a number equal to 1, but it looks different, for example in your problem your looking to convert feet to inches so you would use the conversion factor: 1foot/12inches being sure to keep the inches on the bottom since you want it to cancel out with the other feet. then you multiply: 13.6in.*(1foot/12in.) as you can see the inches will cancel leaveing you with feet. so just grab a calculater and plug that in, you should get something a little more than one.
