2.5 gallons is a very small tank. If the tank is not heated, you could have a single paradise fish OR three white cloud mountain minnows. If it is heated, you could have a single betta (male or female) - it is NOT big enough for a group of females and you CANNOT keep multiple males or males with females, EVER. Or you could consider a small group of very small fish like ember tetras or threadfin rainbowfish - no more than four fish. If the tank is not filtered you will need to do 50% water changes every second day. If it is, 50% water changes twice a week to maintain good water quality in such a small tank. If you plan on filtering the tank, make sure you cycle the filter first.
