∙ 14y agoThe Sun does not have a shadow, objects have shadows cast by the Sun. During a solar eclipse the shadow of the moon travels at varying speeds during different portions of the eclipse (at the beginning and end when the shadow of the moon just has touched the Earth or is about to drop off into space the shadow moves much faster than in the middle near maximum eclipse).
The 'Terminator' (the line dividing the illuminated part of the Earth from the part in shadow) travels at 0,25° per minute across the globe.

∙ 14y agoFor precision purposes, degrees of longitude and latitude have been divided into minutes (') and seconds ("). There are 60 minutes in each degree. Each minute is divided into 60 seconds. Seconds can be further divided into tenths, hundredths, or even thousandths.
Divide that by 60 to get degrees. If you want degrees and minutes, do an integer division by 60; the remainder will be the minutes. Seconds will of course be zero in this case.
Latitude and longitude are angles, and are described in the same units as any other angular quantity. 60 seconds = 1 minute 60 minutes = 1 degree 360 degrees = 1 full circle

Latitude and longitude are typically given in degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). These units are used to specify locations on the Earth's surface in terms of their angular distance north or south of the equator (latitude) and east or west of the prime meridian (longitude).
