How many miles per gallon does a 2002 hd sportster get?

I got about 35, and it was caughing through card a lot. But after I tried setting the A/F mix about about another full turn (couterclockwise) to richen up the mix, it gets somewhere around 40ish now (depending how nice or how mean i ride her) -- and it quit caughing.
