Starting with what each decimal place is called:

.1 one tenth

.01 one hundreth

.001 one thousanth

.0001 one ten-thousanth

.00001 one hundred-thousanth

.000001 one millionth

So, If you have the number:

.999999, and add one more...1.000000

you need 1,000,000 (one million) to make a whole.
