It depends on many things. If you are just starting out, five or ten minutes a day would be fine. As you go deeper, you will likely want to do more. On retreats, people meditate for six - eight - ten hours a day. In most cases, people vary the techniques they do throughout the day. During a regular work day, after you've gained experience, probably an hour a day is about right. But again, it depends on many factors, and on who you are. Let your feelings be your guide. If it feels right, continue. If you start to feel off, slow down and do less. Don't let your mind force you into more than feels good. (But also don't let your mind tell you to stop!)
As long as you are practicing correctly, the more you meditate each day, the better. This is why some hermits live in solitude; they reduce their distractions so that they are able to meditate as much as possible.
Buddhist monk in retreat is about 8-12 hours a day, out of retreat 3 to 5 hours daily. actually it depends on monks, many of them have break after one hour session. some of them is 1 hour in thé morning, one hour at the evening.

Anyone can meditate. You don’t need to be spiritual, flexible, or have a quiet mind. Meditation is simply the practice of paying attention. Children can meditate. Busy professionals can meditate. Even people who think they’re 'too anxious' or 'too distracted' can meditate. It’s not about being perfect – it’s about showing up for a few minutes every day.
