Rule of thumb, about 20 questions per section. How many questions that comes to total depends on your class of CDL and endorsements you're going for. For all classes, you'll have to take General Knowledge. If it's going to be an air brake equipped vehicle, you'll have to take air brakes (and perform your road test in a vehicle so equipped). If you're going for a Class A, you'll have to take Combination Vehicles. Then there's your endorsements... double/triple trailers, hazardous materials, passenger, tanker..
There used to be 100 but it is tough and you only get to take it once with no retests. if you fail you will have to consider another branch of the service so be prepared. You think they let everyone in but that test was so tough it surprised me. STUDY and search the web.
