The amount will depend a lot on a few things. # The width of the carpet you selected. The most common is 12' but it can come 15' and even more rarely 13'6. # The pattern match of the carpet. Most don't have one, but they are common in loop berbers and pattern carpets. A 2" x 2" pattern won't add a lot to your yardage, but some newer Stainmaster patterns are 20" x 36" and larger. # Even if your room is a perfect square and likely its not, doors and entryways will affect where a seam will go. With this stated, using a 12' carpet without a pattern match you would need about 114.67 square yards of carpet This would mean you would have a few seams.
