"Acre" and "mile" have different 'physical dimensions'. That means they're used

to describe different types of physical quantities, and they don't convert to each

other.

"Mile" is a length or distance ... how long this piece of rope is, or how far it is from

here to there. "Acre" is a unit of area ... how much carpet to cover this floor, or sod

to cover this yard.

If you have a large square of land that's a mile on every side, then the area it covers

is one square mile.

There are 640 acres of land in one square mile.

8.5 acres is 0.01328125 of that square mile ... a bit over 1.3 percent.
