In fractions, 0.5 would equals 1/2 which is 50%

0.5 = 1/2 = 50%

If that doesn't help, say the decimal out loud, for example,

0.5 = five tenths or 5/10

if you reduce 5/10 (5 divided by 5 equals 1)

(10 divided by 5 equals 2)

you get 1/2
