Dissimilar fractions can be added by finding the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR (The smallest number you can convert both denominators *i.e. the bottom number of a fraction* to)

For example, if you were to add 3/8 and 1/2, you can convert both to /8, getting 3/8 + 4/8 = 7/8.

In more difficult examples, say you have 3/7 + 1/3, the LCD here is 21, so converting both to /21, we get 9/21+7/21 = 16/21
