In order to find the area of the circle, you must know the formula:

You must square the radius before multiplying by pi. (If you are presented with the diameter, not the radius, divide by two) Next, multiply the squared radius by pi.

Example:

The diameter is 4 inches.

1. Divide the diameter by 2. (Which gives you 4)
2. Square the radius. (4 x 4 is 16)
3. Now, multiply the squared radius by pi.
4. This gives you 50.265. (Rounded)
