∙ 13y agoThe graph or function relates a value y (in the vertcal direction) to a value x (in the horizontal direction).
For each point x in the domain, there must be one and only one value y. In terms of a graph that means that a vertical line from any value of x in the domain must meet the graph in exactly place - at least once and not more than once. More than one x values can have the same y value associated with them.

Without an equality sign the information given does not represent an equation.
2+2
Without an equality sign and not knowing the plus or minus values of the given terms it can't be considered to be an equation.
i may only be 10 yrs old but i can say that an equation is not an function like the graphs of quadratic functions you will only be given an equation
No, this is not a function. The graph would have a vertical line at x=-14. Since there are more than one y value for every given x value, the equation does not represent a function. The slope of the equation also does not exist.

Function notation is important because it helps to clearly communicate how a function operates by providing a compact and standardized way to represent mathematical relationships. It allows us to define, manipulate, and analyze functions more efficiently, enabling us to work with complex mathematical concepts in a concise and organized manner. Additionally, function notation aids in describing the input and output of a function, making it easier to understand and apply in various mathematical contexts.
If what is meant is that the exercise asks whether or not y is a function of x, then it can be determined by a brief experiment with the numbers and variables presented in the equation written. If y is isolated from x depending on the organization of whichever total side of the equation where both variables are written, then it becomes simpler to find whether or not y is a function of x. For example, if the equation is written y2 = x + 4, then y is a function of x because x and y are isolated to different sides of the equation. But if the equation is written, for instance, as y2 + 5x = 4, then y is not a function of x because x and y are not isolated to different sides of the given equation. Furthermore, this rule does not depend upon fractions or estimations. The rule holds true because y is a function of x if x and y are related according to the format of the whole equation and the numbers it contains.

You cannot, necessarily. Given a graph of the tan function, you could not.

Given a function, one can "switch" the variables x and y and then solve for y afterwards to determine the inverse function.
