"God is #1!!!" Okay - I'll skip the dorky super-christian reply. Seriously, though - forget about all the ridiculous number stuff in The Bible. Especially out of my favorite book, Revelations. People go absolutely psycho over trying to decipher "THE END OF THE WORLD" and every other eschatological (yep. I'm busting out the big words now, sorry) concept they can find inside John's vision. Btw, there is actually quite a bit of evidence to suggest that John was talking about Nero Caesar when he wrote 666 (when you add up the numerical value of Caesar's name, guess what you get...) because Caesar was a persecutor of early Christians in ways that would make Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ" a suitable bedtime movie for children. The guy was sick like only the Roman Empire could be sick. Look it up - I think you'll find it interesting.

Just to add a little to the above answer:

666 was written in the Bible book of Revelations. The writer of Revelations was a recluse who lived in a cave. Instead of being some great seer of the future he likely suffered from psychological issues. Most Bible scholars believe that 666 refers to the Roman Emperor Nero. Nero perpetuated many brutal attacks against early Christians. The writer was trying to disguise that he was writing about Nero, and coded his name into 666.

The Greek spelling of Nero, "Nerōn Kaisar", transliterates into Hebrew as "נרון קסר" or nrwn qsr. Adding the corresponding values yields 666, as shown:

Among people who bother to educate themselves, the number 666 means nothing for our present times. And the book of Revelations was written about early Christians and their plight, notabout our time or the future.
