The mean is a type of average yes. It is found by averaging all the numbers you have together and dividing them by the number of numbers (for instance I have 4 and 5, so 4+5 is 9, divided by 2 would equal your mean.)
There are 2 other types of averages. The median, where you line all numbers up from least to greatest, and cross one off from each side until you reach the middle number.
Or the mode which is the number that occurs the most in the set of data.
