Gymnastics requires a great amount of discipline which is why it is so popular in countries like Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia who have previously had very strict political leaders and government regimes.

It is also very popular in the Mediterranean (Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal). That is where it was most popular.
