This is a matter of taste. 8' by 8' (roughly 2.5m x 2.5m) is a pretty big closet really, unless you're a film star, rich or famous, then it's probably pretty small. To give a guide, I'm a carpenter, most built in closets are 2' by up to 8', so 8x8 is pretty big.
A walk-in closet typically requires a minimum of 25 to 50 square feet to be functional and comfortable. The dimensions can vary, but an ideal size is often around 5 feet by 8 feet or larger, allowing enough space for hanging clothes, shelving, and movement. For a more spacious and organized design, consider allocating 100 square feet or more. Ultimately, the size will depend on your storage needs and available space.
An area of 95 square feet is roughly equivalent to a square that measures about 9.75 feet on each side. To visualize it, it's slightly larger than a typical small bedroom or a large walk-in closet. This size can also represent a small dining area or a compact office space.
Sixty square feet is a relatively small area, roughly equivalent to a space measuring 8 feet by 7.5 feet, or about the size of a small walk-in closet. It's also comparable to the area of a small bathroom or a compact home office. To visualize it, imagine a standard parking space, which is typically around 160 square feet; 60 square feet would be less than half that size.
The average size of a his and hers closet can vary significantly based on home size and design, but typically, a shared master closet ranges from 150 to 300 square feet. Each individual's space might be around 75 to 150 square feet, allowing for storage of clothing, shoes, and accessories. Walk-in closets tend to be more spacious, while reach-in or smaller configurations may be more compact. Ultimately, the layout and organization play a key role in maximizing storage efficiency.
It depends on what size steps you take and what speed you go. If you decide to walk very slowly it will take a lot longer than if you walk fast.
The average size of a closet that is not a walk in in a bedroom is between 4-6 feet wide and 24" in depth.
The average closet size for a larger home is about 2 feet by 4 feet. A closet can be any size the builder and home owner desires. An entire bedroom can be turned into a huge closet if that room has no other purpose.

I would think you would need to build your closet at least 8X10. The two width's would be 16 of your 20 linear feet of open storage with about 2-3 extra feet along the opposite wall of your 10 linear feet to add shelves or drawers for additional storage (considering about a 3 foot door). Hope this helps. Good luck!
