Let n be any integer (..., -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ..., etc.)

If 9 was a cubed number, it means n x n x n = n3 = 9

If 9 was a square number, it means n x n = n2 = 9

You should memorize the first few (some might even suggest the first 15 or 20) square numbers. Being able to recognize them comes in handy in higher level mathematics. With that said, we know:

3 x 3 = 9, therefore 9 is a square number

Since 3 x 3 is equal to 9, that means if a number curbed had a product of 9, than that number would have to be less than 3 (if we took 3 cubed, we'd get something higher than 9).

2 x 2 x 2 = 23 = 8

8 is less than 9 and because any factor lower than 2 will be less than 8, which is less than 9, 9 cannot be not cubed.

The answer is 9 is a squared number.

Bonus Information: A number can be both curbed and squared. In fact any number raised to the sixth power is both square and cubed.

e.g., 26 = 64

√64 = 641/2 = 8

641/3 = 4

Therefore 64 is both square and curbed.
