All squares are rectangles, but all rectangles are not squares. But by one definition - that a rectangle is a shape with at least two opposite, equal sides and four right angles - a square can be defined as a rectangle. What makes it a square and not just a normal rectangle is that both pairs of opposite side are equal, which makes it more an individual, unique shape.
