If you refer to the number of girls as "g", cats as "c", kittens as "k", and the total number of legs as "l", then you can say:
l = 2g + 4c + 4k
Now, you know that every cat has seven kittens, which means:
k = 7c
So you can take that value and plug it in to the equation:
l = 2g + 4c + (4 x 7c)
= 2g + 4c + 28c
= 2g + 32c
You also know that each girl is carrying 7 cats, which tells you:
c = 7g
and that too can be plugged in:
l = 2g + (32 x 7g)
= 2g + 224g
= 226g
Finally, you are told that there are 7 girls, so you can plug that in to get the final answer:
l = 226 x 7
= 1582
So there are 1582 legs altogether.
You could also restate that by saying:
l = 2×71 + 4×72 + 4×73
∴ l = 14 + 196 + 1372
∴ l = 1582
Work it out backwards... 1 cat has 2 kittens (which equals 3) and there are 2 cats with 2 kittens in each basket so there is 6 in 1 basket alone. There are 3 baskets so each girl will have a total of 18 cats. So therefore, between all 4 girls, there are 72 cats.\ :D
There are no legs on the bus, it has wheels.-------------------------------------------------------Quite correct but in the bus there were :-Bus driver = 2 legs7 Girls = 14 legs98 Cats = 292 legs= 308 legs in total.(PS I am not counting any legs belonging to the seats that the driver and girls were sitting on) ______________________________________ If you want to count it that way there 7 girls and each has 7 bags that is 49 bags in total, each bag contains 7 cats (each with 7 kittens) so there are 56 cats & kittens per bag. Making a total of 2744 cats and kittens (49 bags x 56 felines), each has 4 legs, giving a total of 10,976 feline legs. Then add the 14 legs from the girls, plus a possible bus driver (2 legs) and perhaps a conductor, with 2 more legs (as it appears to be a school bus) would give a total of 10,994 legs but the bus still has wheels.
You said each girl holds 3 baskets in each hand, which means there are a total of 18 baskets. Multiply the number of baskets by 3 cats per basket and there are 54 cats with a total of 162 kittens. The total number of cats and kittens is 216 multiplied by 4 legs per animal and you have 864 legs. Then you must include the total number of girls' legs which is 6. Therefore you have 870 legs total. This is assuming there are no other passengers or a driver on the bus. Edit: This was a question on one of those dodgy TV shows. The answer given as correct was 250 legs. By my reckoning this is 250legs - 6 human legs = 244 cats legs, ie 61 cats. The only way I can see this being correct is if some of the 3 cats per basket are kittens from other cats!! Is there any equation whereby each cat would have 3 kittens with the total number being 61 cats??
The girls, the cats and the kittens have legs but there are no legs on the bus, it has wheels.

For each girl: 49 big cats (7x7) and 343 small cats (7x7x7) Total cats for each girl is 392. Total cats (all girls): 392 x 7 = 2744 Total legs for all cats: 2744 x 4 = 10976 Girls legs (2 x 7) is 14 Total legs = 10976 + 14 = 10990 ( There is neither a bus driver mentioned nor any other passengers.)

I would start by taking 8 girls by 8 cats, which equals 64 big cats. 64 big cats times 8 little cats is 512 little cats. That means 64 big cats and 8 people and 512 little cats. That is 576 cats and 8 girls. The 8 girls have 16 legs and the 576 cats have 2304 legs. That means that there are 2320 legs in all. That is plenty of legs. I wonder how the bus held so many? Or the back-packs for that matter.
7 girls = 14 girl legs7 x 7 x 7 big cats = 343 big cats = 1,372 big-cat legs7 x 7 x 7 x 7 small cats = 2,401 small cats = 9,604 small-cat legs14 + 1,372 + 9,604 = 10,990 total legs

210 legs were on the bus and that is a weird question. A simple way to solve it is to start with the girls(7 times 2= 14) then go to the cats each cat has 7 smaller cats so, 7 times 7= 49 times 4= 196 then add the girls and you get 210 There are actually 10,990 legs on the bus. You end up with three separate equations that you must solve. Then add the total from each together. 1) 7 girls X 7 bags X 7 big cats X 7 little cats X 4 legs = 9604 legs on little cats 2) 7 girls X 7 bags X 7 big cats X 4 legs = 1372 legs on big cats 3) 7 girls X 2 legs each = 14 legs on each girl Total legs on bus : 9604 + 1372 + 14 = 10990 0 there are no legs on a bus, only wheels

33222....i think..please tell me if its right! you are wrong I got 10992 7 girls + bus driver = 16 legs, 1 backpack has 56 cats in total (49 small cats and the 7 large cats) there are 49 backpacks in total.. so (56 x 49 = 2744) - Then to find out how many legs... (2744 x 4 = 10976) And add the other 16 legs (7 girls + bus driver) so... 10976 + 16 = 10992!! Tah-dahh - xxDDxx
if im correct it would be 70 legs
10990 legs, assuming there's nobody else on this bus.
7 girls have 14 legs total.They each have four cats, so that's 28 cats with 112 legs total.The 28 cats each have 3 kittens, so that's 84 kittens with 336 legs total.462 legs total are on the bus.But then 3 girls with 6 legs get off the bus.Taking 12 cats with 48 legs off the bus.And taking 36 kittens with 144 legs off the bus.Or removing 198 legs from the bus total.Leaving 264 legs on the bus.
