Carpenters and contractors are often measuring in feet, inches, and fractional inches [1 ft 7 ¾ in, for example]. Up until {around the year 2000, I think}, stock prices were priced in 1/8 dollar increments. So you might have 15 3/8 as a stock price, for example. Now they are priced in 1 cent increments.
