A variable which can take only a finite number of values. These may be whole numbers or, like hat or shoe sizes, they can take values that are in halves.
2 halves
Six whole halves. Each whole has two halves making it, 6(wholes)x2(#of halves in whole)= 12. 12 halves in 6 wholes.

halves are 2 pieces of a whole combine together to make a whole if you cut a half from a whole you get half. if that makes sense to you

There are two halves in a whole. If you multiply 2 by 10 you get the answer 20.
Decimals are used to describe parts of a number, something in between two whole numbers. Tenths, halves, eights etc. But 108 is only whole numbers, so there's nothing there to use a decimal for.
