There are 2 formulas that are used for calculating almost everything electrical. E = I x R where E is voltage (E stands for electro-motive force), I is current (I stands for intensity), and R is resistance measured in ohms. P = I x E where P stands for power measured in watts, I is current as described above, and E is voltage as described above. From these 2 formulas are derived 12 formulas that allow you to calculate any term if you know any 2 other terms. But all you need are these 2 formulas and if you can do the algebra, you can figure out just about anything. The biggest exception to all this is for 3 phase systems where in both formulas the voltage is multiplied by the square root of 3. Don't let this confuse you. Just do it. The square root of 3 is approximately 1.732.
