The are very many different kinds. Amongst them are:

  • arithmetic sequence: there is a constant [additive] difference between successive terms.
  • geometric sequence: there is a constant [multiplicative] ratio between successive terms.
  • recursive sequence: given two or more "seeds", each term is generated by an expression relating previous terms with the current term.
  • random sequence: where it is no possible to predict the next number even with full information about all the previous terms.
  • spliced sequences: where two or more sequences (as defined above) are merged together.
