The year 1451 was in the 15th century.

Remember it this way. The year 1451 is CCYY where CC = Century and YY = year.
To get the century always add 1 to CC. Why? Well, that's because the counting started at zero. Therefore, the first day of the first year of the first century was the 1st century (and not the zero century). The first day of the first year of the second cenrury was the 2nd century and so on.
