A Prime number has only 2 factors which are 1 and itself. Composite numbers are everything else except 1 and 0. 1 and 0 are neither prime, nor composite.

Why do you only need the common prime factors when finding the greatest common factor?

All numbers (except 0 and 1) are either prime or composite. All composite numbers can be expressed as the product of prime factors. So the GCF will either be a single prime number or a combination of prime numbers. Of course, if there are no common prime numbers, the GCF is 1.

Are prime numbers greater than 2 composite?

No. Prime numbers cannot be composite and composite numbers cannot be prime!

What are the uses of prime and composite numbers?

All composite numbers have prime factors and these are used to find the highest common factor of 2 or more numbers and they are also used in finding the lowest common multiple of 2 or more numbers. Composite numbers have 2 or more factors while prime numbers have only 2 factors which are themselves and one

Which numbers are prime numbers and which are composite numbers from 1 to 100?

Does prime factorization of composite numbers include prime and composite numbers?

No, prime factorizations consist entirely of prime numbers.

Is the product of two prime numbers composite or prime?

The product of two prime numbers will be composite.

Is it true that prime numbers have to be prime and composite?

Prime numbers can not composite as - Prime number has only 2 factors whereas composite have more than 2

Does the prime factorization of any composite number include prime and composite numbers?

Prime factorization never includes a composite number. All numbers in prime factorization must be prime numbers.

What is the name for the numbers that are not prime numbers?

Numbers other than prime prime numbers are composite numbers. Only whole numbers should be considered for prime & composite numbers. However, '1' is an exceptional case because it is neither prime nor composite.

Composite relatively prime numbers mean?

Relatively prime numbers share no common factors other than 1.

What are 3 digit composite numbers which are relatively prime?

Composite numbers are numbers greater than 1 that have more than two factors. Relatively prime numbers are numbers that have no common factors other than 1. Therefore, to find 3-digit composite numbers that are relatively prime, we need to look for numbers that are composite and have no common factors. An example of such a pair of 3-digit composite numbers that are relatively prime would be 119 and 143.

If 0 and 1 are not composite or prime numbers then what are they?

First, zero is not applied to the terms prime and composite because the definitions only apply to natural numbers (positive whole numbers, which does not include zero). One is not prime or composite because one is the unit that is used within the definition of prime of composite numbers, and many definitions of prime and composite even exclude one from the definition. If you want to categorize one within a discussion of prime and composite, it is common to simply call one the unit.
