Pythagoras' theorem is basically a method to find a missing length of a triangle. So you have side A, B and c. Side c is opposite the right angle in the triangle (right angled triangle) If you square A and B and add them together you will get a number. You then square route that number and that will be the length of side C. As it is opposite the right angle it will be the longest side. If you want to find one of the shorter sides for example A you square C and take B away from it. You then square route this number. If you have a scientific calculator there will be a square and square route symbol. The square symbol is a little two and the square route one is like a tick but the top goes across into a line, if that makes sense. Hope this has helped.
