  • they have a higher age-specific life expectancy. That is, compared to the past, someone of their age now is expected to continue living for longer.
  • they will have a longer post-retirement period when - if they can afford it and physically manage - they can enjoy the fruits of a "lifetime" of work.
  • they are more likely to suffer from diseases that take a long time to manifest. Cancer, dementia, Alzheimer's, are some examples.
  • their health-care will become increasingly more expensive.
