The median average is the middle number when the numbers are listed in increasing order.

For example, the median of {1, 2, 3, 8, 9} is 3.

If there is an even number of data items, the median is the mean average of the middle two numbers (add them together and divide by 2).

For example, the median of {1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7) is the mean of 4 & 5 = (4 + 5)/2 = 4.5
