In windows go to the control and select display properties and click on the settings tab and there you can choose resolution and color depth. Sometimes you cannot change to this low of a setting so if a program needs this setting right click on the shortcut for the program and choose properties and the click the compatibility tab on top. Choose 256 color mode 640x480 and click ok, it may work then.
