How do you use a balance scale?

A balance scale uses a weighing plate and a counter. It typically does not matter which plate is used for which purpose. Begin by placing the item to be weighed on one plate. Place the calibrated counter weights on the opposite plate, beginning with smaller weights, and continue until the item being weighed begins to rise. As the two plate reach the same level, the scale balances, and you have determined the weight of your item.

How can you find out what year Chevy 305 motor is in an 85 CJ7 that has no data plate without taking it to a mechanic?

chevy motors have a number sequence on the back of the block where the bell housing bolts up.you can take this number and decode it at certain auto parts stores or in a manual. * also look on the front of the engine in front of the pass. side cylinder head.there is a stamping pad that has numbers stamped into them. these will help narrow the year and application down. it is also possible that the casting numbers mentioned on the back of the engine to have been used on a few different engines ie..307,305,350,etc...if there are no numbers on the pad in the front of the engine then that means the block has been remanufactured at one of the large engine rebuilders.they remove or grind these numbers off for some dumb reason.

What flex plate should be used on casting?

The flex plate should be chosen based on the engine and transmission combination you are using. It should match the bolt pattern and size of the crankshaft and torque converter. It's best to consult the specifications of your specific engine and transmission to determine the correct flex plate to use.

Bad knock on engine people say flex plate on 1979 gmc 350 engine?

If it really IS the flex plate, that's a lot cheaper than other problems that could cause a bad knock. The flex plate is a steel plate that bolts to the rear of the engine and has gear teeth around it. The starter engages with the teeth to start the engine. The torque converter also bolts to the flex plate. All power produced by the engine that is used to move the vehicle goes through the flex plate. Flex plates get old and sometimes crack. When that happens you want to get the old flex plate out of there as soon as you can before it breaks completely and destroys the torque converter. A flex plate is relatively cheap, compared to a complete engine rebuild or replacing the torque converter. To replace the flex plate, simply pull the engine (or transmission, whichever is easiest), unbolt the flex plate from the crankshaft, bolt up a replacement and put the transmission (or engine) back. Of course, there is more involved than that, but it's not as bad as some repairs.

Where do you find the flywheel on an 86 Chevy Cavalier?

The flywheel- or in your case- it is really called a "flex plate" is bolted to the crankshaft, and it is what is used to bolt the torque converter to the engine. The starter's ring gear is also welded to the flex plate. If in the rare instance you do have a manual transmission, then the flywheel is used to transmit power from the engine through the clutch/input shaft of the transmission. In either case, it is located between the engine and the transmission.
