The easy answer is that right now, school is your real life and you need to acquire this skill to pass your math class. The hard answer is that not everything you learn in school will have practical applications later. The obscure answer is that solving math problems sharpens your deductive reasoning and assists in acquiring patience and diligence which are thought to be desirable traits. While it is always better to learn something you don't need than not to learn something you do, keep in mind that this too shall pass and you might need to help your children with their math homework in the future.

Although dogs do learn when they are struck, they do not learn positively. they only learn more and more how to avoid it the next time, not by doing the right instead of the wrong, but by ducking away from you. it is best to avoid striking your dog. Instead try positive reinforcement. If your dog has done something wrong, catch her in the act and say no in a firm loud voice that immediately gets her attention, then distract her with what is the right answer, for example, if your dog is chewing on something she is not supposed to, discipline her with a firm no, take what she is chewing on away, and exchange it for something she knows she is allowed to have.
