The word percent means of or per one hundred. If you were shopping and find an item marked for 25 percent (25%) off you would multiply .25 times the cost which, in this case is 200 or 50. Then you would subtract 50 from 200 and the result would be 150.

In working with percentages you replace the percent sign(%) with a decimal and move it from right to left two digits to convert percent to decimals then use the math function to solve for the answer.

Ex: 10%=.10, 25%=.25, 125%= 1.25

Perhaps an easier way to do it is this. 25% off means that you will pay 75%, because 100% minus 25% equals 75%. then just multiply (from the above) 200 by .75. You would get 150, which is the original price minus 25%.
