There are 2.205 lbs. per kg. --> 35 lbs. x 1 kg / 2.205 lbs. = 35 / 2.205 = 15.87 kg (the lbs. units cancel out and the new unit - kg - is retained in the conversion.) In other words when you are converting one unit to another, the original unit should be in the denominator of the conversion factor where the conversion factor is the ratio of desired units (numerator) to the original units.
