That all depends on what digit you are rounding the certain number to!

Remember that:

• You round up the value when the digit on the right side of the digit you are rounding by is at least 5 i.e. 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.

• You round down the value when the digit on the right side of the digit you are rounding by is at most 4 i.e. 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4.

In order to better assist you, I give the example of how rounding works.

Rounding the number to the nearest hundreds

384.72 is rounded to 400. To know that, you need to know how the digits are named. 3 is on the hundreds place, and the digit adjacent to 3 on the right is 8. Since the adjacent digit is greater than 5, we can round up the value to get 400 by adding 3 by 1.

The rest of the sections are similar to the first. The mechanics are the same.

Rounding the number to the nearest tens

We want to round the number to the nearest tens. The digit that is on the tens place is 8. Next to that number is 4. Since 4 is not at least 5, we can round down the value to get 380.

Rounding the number to the nearest ones

The number on the ones digit is 4. The next digit is 7. Then, since 7 is at least 5, we round up the value to get 385.0.

Rounding the number to the nearest tenths

The number on the tenths digit is 7. The next digit is 2. Then, since 2 is not at least 5, we round down the value to get 384.7.
