to convert to a decimal, change the fraction to be over 10, 100, 1000, etc

39/50 = (39*2)/(50*2) = 78/100

Simply execute the division problem the fraction represents by moving the decimal point in the denominator the appropriate number of places (1 for over 10, 2 for over 100, 3 for over 1000, etc)

78/100 means move the decimal point in 78 two spaces to the left

78/100 -> .78

Alternatively, do the division problem 39 divided by 50. If you answer is greater than one, you mixed up the order of the two.
