Five Over Twelve
here is a very basic of how to add and subtract decimals;
for adding and subtracting decimals you must get the two fractions to have the same denominator, the number on the bottom. you can do this by multiplying the numbers by another fraction that equals 1, such as 2/2 or 5/5. in this case the lowest common denominator,(or LCD) is 12. to get 3/4 to have a denominator of 12 you must multiply it by 3/3. this does not change the value because it is equal to one. 3/4*3/3=9/12. you must do the same for 1/3.
1/3*4/4=4/12. now you can subtract.
9/12-4/12=5/12. this cannot be simplified therefore 4/12 is your answer.
3/4
1/4 - 3/10 = -1/20
Odk
4/6 - 3/6 = 1/6
3/4 minus 7/8 = -1/8
5/12
1 and a half
7/12 − 1/4 = 16/48 which reduces to 1/3
1
1 1/4 - 3/4 = (1×4+1)/4 - 3/4 = 5/4 - 3/4 = (5-3)/4 = 2/4 = (1×2)/(2×2) = 1/2
6 over 8 3 over 4
1/36 (one over thirty-six)
