The ancient Romans had no real reason for such large numbers as 9 trillion or 9.0*10^12 in scientific notation but if needed the Roman numeral system was and is still quite capable of attaining such large numbers by means of brackets and superscripts (which is similar in a way that we now use exponents to increase the values of numbers) as follows:-

((CM))^(M) which means 10*1,000*900*1,000*1,000 = 9,000,000,000,000
