A parabola is the result of an equation such as y=x2, or another variation of it such as y=2x2+1.

This graph is shaped like a U or an upside down U, and this is shown by making a table.

For every x value, the y value is squared. For example, if x=1, y will also equal 1; if x=2, y=4; if x=3, y=9; etc. These give you the coordinates (1,1), (2,4), and (3,9). When the coordinates are graphed the U-shaped graph (parabola) is formed.
