It depends on what you are trying to convert. There are certains measurements that are equivalent to each other such as 1inch=2.54centimeters.
Scaling factor. EX: If 1 inch on a house plan = 10 ft of real house; then the scaling factor is n = 1 in/10 ft. So if the house plan depicts a wall that's 8 inches, the equivalent house wall is 8/n = 8/(1/10) = 80 ft. QED.
One inch is equivalent to 0.039370 millimetres. In order to convert the measurements one should divide the amount of millimetres by 0.039370 to find the length in inches.
Length and volume are not equivalent measurements. Length is a two dimensional measurement while volume is a three dimensional measurement.
