A diagonal mark ( / ) used especially to separate alternatives, as in and/or, to represent the word per, as in miles/hour, and to indicate the ends of verse lines printed continuously
in math, this is used to represent the first number divided by the second number, as in 16/4 = 4. It also represents a fraction, such as 1/4, but is also technically 1 divided by 4.
