Density is a measure quantity per unit of volume. The quantity most often used is mass per unit volume but can include electric charge per unit volume. At 4 degrees Celsius water has it's highest density of 1 gram per milliliter. In math, if you had 2 liters of water you would have 2000 grams (or 2 KG) of water.

mass = density * volume

mass = 1 g/ml * 1000 ml/l * 2 l

mass = 2000 g
