One simple formula for Acceleration from Point A to Point B (either in time or space) is [ V(B) - V(A)] / [T(B) - T(A)] Where V is velocity and T is time. If the Velocity at Point B is higher than velocity at Point A, then this equation produces a Positive answer. Or to put it another way, Acceleration is positive when your ending speed is higher than your beginning speed.
