Set up an algebraic equation.

4x - 14 = 6

Add '14' to both sides

4x = 20

Divide both sides by '4'

x = 5 The answer!!!!!

Remember for an equals(=), whatever you do to one side (+.-.x./), you must do to the other,(+-x/) in order to preserve equality. Its like keeping an old fashioned weigh scales in balance.
