The next number is 16. Counting forward from the first 1 - every other number is an increment of 1. From the second 1 - every other number is the square of the number it follows. Therefore the next number is 16, then 5, then 25, then 6... and so on...
This sequence appears to follow the relation *3, /2 , +1, *3, /2, +1,........ By applying the above relation to the existing numbers we see that 24 + 1 = 25. Hence we apply the *3 logic to 25. We obtain 25 * 3 = 75 as the next number in the sequence.
