An input or collection of information is called Data.

The above definition is just a simple one.

A better explanation can be like this for different situations,

in computer science:data implies something that you give the computer as an input information and do a certain function on it

in experiments and practicals:it means to give certain values in the obs. table, etc.

in a math sum (word problem):it means to get or obtain info and list them out seperately for your use.

Hope this is useful to you.

How does the outlier affect the mean of the data?

An outlier does affect the mean of the data. How it's affected depends on how many data points there are, how far from the data the outlier is, whether it is greater than the mean (increases mean) or less than the mean (decreases the mean).

When is the mean not a valid statistic to describe a set of data?

The population data may be skewed and thus the mean is not a valid statistic. If mean > median, the data will be skewed to the right. If median > mean, the data is skewed to the left.

What is mean data?

Mean data are observations whose values are equal to the mean of the data set. By default it is the arithmetic mean but it could be the geometric or harmonic mean - if those measures are more appropriate.
