The goal is to make the equation equal X.

45=-15-5x <--First you would want to get rid of the (-15) by adding it to both sides of the equal sign (whatever you do to one side of the equation, you must do to the other.

45+15=(-15+15)-5x

60= -5x <---This is the equation you get from the previous step. Now you want to get the X by it's self, so you would divide both sides by -5.

60/-5 = -5x/-5 <---from this equation, the x is now by itself and you have the answer to the equation.

-12=x

To make sure it works, plug (-12) in for x and see if it works.

45= -15- 5 (-12)

45= -15 + 60

45 = 45

The equation works, so (-12)=x is the answer
